Ten years ago, Ben signed up for his very first Shitbox Rally to raise awareness and funds in honour of his Dad Howard, Uncle Pete, (later) Uncle Len, any many other close family and friends who had battled cancer … and lost.
Eight rallies later, Ben and his brilliant mate Glenn Bennett have signed up once again for another Rally adventure — but this time, for a far more personal reason than we ever imagined.
Through all those years of rallying, fundraising and cheering on the incredible work of cancer researchers, we never once thought that one day the fight would come so close to home.
As many of you know, Ben's beautiful boy Jasper was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in October last year, and after a tough summer of chemotherapy, he is now approaching three months in remission 🎉.
There is no doubt in our minds that the funds raised over the past two decades by the Shitbox Rally community helped play a role in Jasper’s story. And for that, we are incredibly grateful. Grateful for the researchers looking for breakthroughs. Grateful for the doctors, nurses, social workers and other support staff who walked beside us through the roughest chapter of our lives.
We know times are tough, and we genuinely understand that everyone has causes close to their heart. If you are able to support us as we hit the road once again to raise funds for cancer research, Jasper, Glenn, myself and our amazing families, would be deeply grateful.
Together, I hope that we can keep the fire burning for people like Jasper … and write many more success stories just like his.
Cancer is shit – let’s do what we can to kick it to the kurb!
Marvellous Effort That are fundraising for Cancer Council
They're doing what!?
Shitbox Rally is a 7-day challenge like no other. Participants drive cars worth no more than $1,500 through some of Australia's most stunning (and often rugged) landscapes, all in support of cancer research. It's not a race — it's a challenge and more importantly, a celebration of the power of community.
Yes, the cars break down, and yes, there are plenty of unexpected twists along the way, but that's all part of the fun.
The rally is designed to be a colourful and unpredictable experience, where teams travel in small groups, helping each other along the way.
And when the day's drive ends, we gather around the campfire, share stories, and reflect on the day's achievements.
This event brings together people who have been impacted by cancer in different ways — whether it's through their own battles or through loved ones. Together we'll make memories that last a lifetime while supporting the fight against cancer.
